About Kansspelautoriteit (Netherlands Gambling Authority)

The Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) is the Dutch gambling regulator, set up on 1 April 2012. It licenses and supervises gambling in the Netherlands. Since the Remote Gambling Act (Wet Kansspelen op afstand, KOA) took effect on 1 October 2021, it also licenses online casinos and online betting for players in the Netherlands.

What a KSA licence means for you

A Dutch licence covers players in the Netherlands. Licensed sites must verify your identity, set and respect playing limits, and watch for signs of problem gambling under a legal duty of care.

Cruks is the central self-exclusion register. Licensed sites must check it every time a player logs in or visits, so one sign-up blocks you from all Dutch-licensed online gambling and land-based casinos and arcades. The minimum period is six months, and you cannot end it early.

Since 1 October 2024 operators must check whether a player can afford to gamble when net deposits in a month pass €700 (€300 for players aged 18 to 23). If the check fails, further deposits are blocked for the rest of that month.

The KSA does not settle individual money disputes. Complain to the operator first. The KSA uses reports from players to supervise licensees, and it fines both licensees and illegal operators.

To check a licence, look for the KSA licence-holder mark on the site, which should link to the KSA website, and search the KSA's register of licence holders (the Kansspelwijzer). The mark is not compulsory, so the register is the real check.
