About Spillemyndigheden (Danish Gambling Authority)
Spillemyndigheden is the Danish Gambling Authority, part of the Danish Ministry of Taxation's area. It licenses and supervises gambling in Denmark. Since the Danish Gambling Act opened the market on 1 January 2012, it has licensed private operators for online casino and online betting, as well as land-based casinos and gaming machines.
What a Spillemyndigheden licence means for you
A Danish licence covers players in Denmark. Licensed sites must verify your identity, and since 1 January 2020 you must set a daily, weekly or monthly deposit limit before you can play.
ROFUS is the national self-exclusion register, run by Spillemyndigheden since 2012. You can exclude yourself for 24 hours, one, three or six months, or permanently. It covers all Danish-licensed online gambling sites, land-based casinos and land-based betting.
Spillemyndigheden supervises whether operators follow the rules and can act on reports about licensees. It is not a court for money disputes: complain to the operator first. A Danish licence does not cover you when you play on a site licensed only in another country.
Denmark is a strict regulator. Licensed sites must show Spillemyndigheden's logo. Sites without a Danish licence that target Danish players are illegal, and the authority works to block them.
To check a licence, search the list of licence holders on Spillemyndigheden's website and check that the website you use is listed.
Recent rule changes
- We did not verify any major change to Danish online gambling rules between 2023 and 2026. The mandatory deposit limit (from 1 January 2020) and ROFUS remain the main player protections.
